How to Add More Songs to the Game Mode
3D GoGo 2 has embedded the StepMania game and uses 'StepMania Files' for game mode songs. You can find additional SongMania files on http://www.stepmania.com.
Here is a guide to adding new songs:
- Go to the Stepmania site at http://www.stepmania.com
- Find a song you want to download (Note: Pick “recent songs” under the download menu and browse through these. All the other menu and search functions seemed to be broken when we tested it)
- Download the .smzip file
- The file format of an .smzip file is actually a normal ZIP file. This means you can rename the file .smzip to .zip and unzip the file with any compression application (e.g. WinZip, WinRAR, 7Zip). You may be able to open the file without renaming it first but rename it if that doesn't work.
- If there is a .ogg file when you unzip the .smzip file then continue with the following steps. Otherwise see the “possible issues” section below.
- inGame go to ‘Game Mode’ – ‘My Songs’. Copy the .ogg and .sm files to this folder.
- Start 3D GoGo afresh and go again to ‘Game Mode’
- Choose your song, the level of difficulty and click Play - Have fun!
Possible Issues
- If the song does not play correctly and it was an .ogg file, try loading and saving it as an .ogg again using winLAME or Audacity. Then start the game fresh again. Note: for Audacity you will also need to install the Lame Encoder
- If there is an .mp3 file in the .smzip file you need to convert it to .ogg format and change the .sm file to match
- Download and install the winLAME encoder or Audacity. (Note: for Audacity you will also need to install the Lame Encoder)
- convert the file to an .ogg format file (E.g. load the .mp3 and save/export as .ogg)
- open up the .sm file in a plain text editor like notepad. Don't use Word or Wordpad as they will add extra stuff into the file.
- find the #MUSIC: tag near the top of the file. Change the .mp3 in the filename to .ogg
- If you get an error reading the file that says it is a bad format
- save an changes to the text file and restart the game
Additional Notes
- If you want to create Stepmania versions of other songs, simply follow the guide on the Stepmania site.
